Spanning Table

The maximum recommended support spacings are based on testing in accordance with AS 1562.1-1992. Design and installation of sheet roof and wall cladding, and AS 4040.1-1992. Resistance to concentrated loads.**

The pressure considered is based on a typical awning Cpn=-0.8 and Kl=1.5 adjacent to an enclosed structure.

The tables are based on FLATDEK® fixed to supports of 1.0 mm BMT minimum. For FLATDEK® awnings applications, the awning span is often governed by the capacity of the receiver channel and its connections. This must be considered in the design of any awning system.

Depending on support spacings used, FLATDEK® can be installed as either a:

  • Light foot traffic roof (incidental maintenance foot traffic acceptable); or
  • No foot traffic roof (will not support the weight of a person walking on it), see tables.

FAQs

Is FLATDEK® suitable for all roofing applications?

Because FLATDEK® is pan fixed it is recommended that it be used in open sided awnings where a high degree of weather tightness is not required.

Why is FLATDEK® screwed in the pans?

FLATDEK® is screw fixed in the pans as a screw through the ribs will damage the rib at the sides and result in holes for water to enter.

Why is the underside of FLATDEK® finished with a high gloss paint?

The high gloss provides greater light reflectance and this reduces the need for additional lighting or translucent roof sheets. The colours have also been chosen to assist in getting this "lighting" affect. The finish is also aesthetically pleasing for open structures.
